Acquire the appropriate attitude that gets you through any strain.
Research has found that people who possess three key attributes—the ability to view challenges as opportunities, a sense of control over their lives, and a commitment to forging ahead—tend to do best in times of adversity. To acquire this attitude...
Put setbacks into perspective. Next time you're in the midst of a trauma, take a moment to step back mentally. Tell yourself: This won't seem as bad in a week or so. "Taking a longer view will make things more tolerable...and keep you from losing your head."
Start problem solving. Ask yourself: What can I do to remedy the situation? "Analyzing the issue will help you target your recovery efforts". If you really can't do anything, accept that, then regain your sense of control by focusing on what you can do to keep something similar from happening in the future.
Carry out your plan. "The great thing about a hardy attitude is that it reinforces itself." In other words, the more challenges you rise above in your life, the stronger and more resilient you'll become.
